Engenheiros agrônomos são formados em cursos de Engenharia Agronômica, assim como engenheiros florestais em cursos de Engenharia Florestal, engenheiros agrícolas em cursos de Engenharia Agrícola.
Agronomia é o conjunto de ciências e princípios que regem a prática da agricultura.
Agricultura é a ciência de produzir animais e vegetais úteis ao homem, respeitando os recursos naturais e as pessoas.
Agronomia também pode ser entendida como sinônimo de ciências agrárias envolvendo as Engenharias Agronômica, Florestal, Agrícola e de Pesca/de Aquicultura. As ciências agrárias ainda incluem medicina veterinária, zootecnia e ciência dos alimentos.
Assim, embora possa existir uma escola de Agronomia, não existe especificamente um curso de Agronomia.
As instituições de ensino têm o direito de definir o título acadêmico de seus formados e para esses casos o faz concedendo a titularidade de agrônomo.
Porém, não existe razão de se manter o termo equivocado para o curso de agronomia, assim como não se deve mais usar o termo agrônomo para o profissional formado pelas escolas de engenharia.
O que temos no Brasil são cursos de Engenharia Agronômica que formam engenheiros agrônomos.
A Lei Federal 5.194/66 regula a profissão de engenheiro agrônomo. Não emprega o termo agrônomo. Da mesma forma, a Resolução 218/73, do CONFEA, que trata das diferentes modalidades profissionais, cita apenas engenheiro agrônomo.
“A agronomia é uma ciência que congrega diversas áreas, sendo uma delas a engenharia agronômica. Mas existem outras, como é o caso da engenharia de pesca, engenharia agrícola, engenharia florestal”, esclarece o Prof. Otavio José Menten, coordenador do curso de engenharia agronômica da Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz (Esalq).
Em 1933, quando a profissão foi regulamentada, era comum referir-se ao profissional da carreira como engenheiro agrônomo ou agrônomo.
Na opinião do professor da Esalq, o ideal seria adotar apenas a expressão engenharia agronômica.
Assim, deve ficar muito claro que não existe diferença entre as denominações engenharia agronômica e agronomia. Na prática, os dois se resumem à mesma carreira.
O Engenheiro Agrônomo
O Engenheiro Agrônomo trabalha nas questões relacionadas com o solo, avaliando a interação entre os reinos animal, mineral e vegetal.
É a pessoa que projetos, organiza programas, supervisiona mudanças, realiza pesquisas e desenvolve técnicas para melhorar a produção e comércio de produtos agrícolas. Pode atuar em atividades que vão desde o plantio até a distribuição da mercadoria, possuindo uma visão abrangente sobre a cadeia de produção e armazenamento.
Estimula o uso racional dos recursos, orientando produtores na atuação e em doenças de lavoura, assim como, no combate às pragas.
A profissão no Brasil
Dentro do Brasil, é uma profissão que possui um valor social muito elevado, uma vez que é o setor da economia que só tem crescido.
Apresenta boas perspectivas do Ministério da Agricultura para os próximos anos.
Por estar em constante expansão, as oportunidades de trabalho crescem em todas as regiões.
